edit: some added corrections about improvements:
PAL unhappy about tuner and composite video using analogue cable on the tuner and digital videocamera on the composite input now a lot happier after some tweaking)
why?
- because the white is overexposed (very badly in light scenes, white clothes, easily visible in histogram) (can be reduced by reducing contrast)
- because the combfilter doesn't work properly by default (can now be tweaked, it's working better)
- temporalnoisefilter too high by default (can be tweaked to lower value)
- skipping frames in joint stereo mode recordings
PAL unhappy about audio using the audio input on the card (the tuner is fine)
why?
- heavily distorted audio by default, after tweaking it still isn't optimal because of the limiter
Windows MCE2005
Asus A8V MB
Athlon64 3000+
1024 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9550 SE
recording programs: WinTV2000, GBPVR
video decoders: Media MVP, Cyberlink decoder, Nero decoder, FFDSHOW
I'm personally more concerned about the video issues than the audio issues
borgs:
I'm a PAL PVR-150 MCE user. I said that I was unhappy with the video and audio in the poll.
I'm slightly unhappy with the video as I can't get as good a picture as I think the hardware can give. It's mainly the whites being washed out. I was very unhappy with motion artifacts but I seem to have pretty much fixed that by changing the temporal setting in the tweak tool.
The audio I am most annoyed at. Most recordings exhibit clipping and the volume is all over the place. I will be trying another driver soon that hopefully works with the tweak tool to see if I can fix this. Why there is a volume limiter I do not know - it's not like we're listening to it through headphones!
I'm prrety annoyed that its taken me 10 months and 3 PCs to get something half decent. Two PCs work OK with WinTV 2000 but give black and white, tearing, stuttery images and bad lip-sync with every other application. Luckily, the machine I bought specifically to be a video recorder, an EPIA 5000 actually works pretty well - otherwise I would have binned the card and switched to another manufacturer.
There are a lot of drivers to choose from, which is good, but unfortunately most of them exhibit some problem or another.
But, if I can get rid of the current issues then I will finally be happy with my home built PVR, which is very reliable, near silent and has just enough power to be able to record one channel and watch another recorded programme (using the MVP) at the same time.
The MVP is not without its faults either but that's a different story.
My current setup:
EPIA 5000 (running at about 350Mhz Intel equivalent)
512Mb RAM
40Gb HD
PVR 150 MCE
Windows XP
USB-UIRT
Sky Digital receiver
GB-PVR (for recording TV programmes only)
MVP (using Hauppauge software )
The setup is a combined video recorder / router
Cirruz:
Damn! I've chose the wrong answer ("PAL I'm Happy with my A/V")! Is there any way to fix it?
