MediaMVP Wishlist
Jason:
It seems that everyone has a few wishlist type of items for the MVP. With that in mind, I would like to post this thread as a 'sticky' and as anyone comes up with a plausible wish, I will add it here to the initial post. I took the 'initial' posts from a few threads and edited my original post and then placed it here...

Wishes
1. Although it is in the release notes, a more clearly definable way to sort your files.
2. The ability to remove the icons completely from the listings of files.
3. The ability to scale the font sizes of the menus from the remote...ie, without having to manually edit the styles sheet.
4. The ability to have the server software look up the weather via the server pc (for those with an always on connection...). Maybe the ability to have a 'home' page with weather, stocks, sport scores, etc. I gues this goes along with some way to display intra/internet pages.
5. The ability to delete files
6. The ability to display (via an OSD) the properties of each file being played (ex: resolution, audio, length, etc).
7. The ability for the directory's that are viewed to be autorefreshed. If I am watching one of the videos, and the directory is updated with a new file, I will never see it unless I exit out and then re-enter that same directory (and then sort by date... scroll down etc.)
8. The addition of internet radio to the core server pc software. As with #7, this could be sent to the MVP for use in a way similiar to MP3 files. An example would be the multitude of shoutcast.com stations. NOTE: Added in lates software
9. The ability to read the actual ID3 tag information on MP3 files instead of just the file name. If ID3 tags are used, then the ability to sort by track number.
10. The ability to display the album art, if it's included in the file (iTunes, MusicMatch, etc. allow you to enter this information).
11. The ability to use XML play lists (like the ones generated from iTunes); they currently have to be converted to M3U.
12. The ability to Cross fade between audio tracks.
13. The ability to limit access to directories for each MVP on the lan. An example would be limiting accessfor the MVP in the childrens playroom and having full access in the Parent's bedroom.
14. The ability to playback files recorded with LPCM audio.
15. Allow the play back of 'real' streams (I know this will need processing on the PC), ogg, mp2, wav, aiff, mp3Pro, protected wma (like wfuw.org archives), .shn and .flac formats.
16. Different speeds of fast-forward and reverse ala Tivo.
17. The ability to see a timeline of where we are in a show ala Tivo.
18. User defined screen saver.
19. Visualizations with MP3 playback.
20. Fast forward & Rewind in Music mode.
21. Ability to watch/pause live TV via WinTV
22. Ability to schedule recordings (nothing fancy- maybe an extension of WIN TV Scheduler)
23. Immediate recording (One Touch Recording)
24. The ability to show different formats within the picture module. (TIFF files).
25. Possible support for other media file formats (*.dvr-ms, mpeg4, .mov (Quicktime) and .wmv, etc) with realtime server transcoding if necessary? NOTE: DIVX/XVID added in latest software release
26. Adjustments for brightness and color levels.
27. Closed Captioning
28. An option to letterbox on 4:3, preferably with a button on the remote (Australia gets a mix of 4:3 content with bars on either side and 16:9)
29. The ability to set the skip length. Currently it skips 60 seconds... maybe this could be done in the PC software and then uploaded to the MVP.
30. Frame advance with the pause key would be useful or even a slow forward.
31. The ability to send a "magic packet" to wake the server PC on startup (WOL).
32. PIP. the ability to view a movie while browsing through the rest of the areas of the MVP. When weather an other features come around this will definitely be nice to quickly view the weather and then continue watching the movie.
33. Text Broadcast. This would be useful if you were receiving up to date information from news and wanted to make sure you saw it while watching a movie. Something like severe weather warnings, etc.
34. Menus should be circular. If I go to Music and it says "page 1 of 100" then an uparrow should get me to page 100.
35. Setting the widescreen flag correctly depending on what is encoded in the video file.
36. Internet Webcast Streaming, video + audio
These are just a few... I am sure that we can come up with many more...

Alnitak:
re: wish list item #8 (internet radio)
ideally this might be done with an extra process on the windows side of the system that proxies any packets received on a specified port (UDP and TCP) and converts them into the protocol used by the MediaMVP itself.
This should immediately enable people with Videolan servers or software like ProgDVB to relay live MPEG video or audio streams to the MediaMVP.
I've done some work along these lines already for UDP broadcast systems, but only by bypassing the software on the box altogether. So far I've only had limited success (see Linux forum) although others have faired better with TCP streams.

GB-PVR does internet radio on the MVP. If you're interesting in trying it, you can download it from http://www.gbpvr.com
Jason:
Well, we are up to 19 seperate issues that I have 'lifted' off of seperate posts.
Are these the only ones (plausible...) that we can come up with?

Remember the directory position - allowing to go back a level and not ending up on the first directory of the first page but exactly on the directory that was used to enter the subdirectory
