WinTV-HVR 850/950/950Q/955Q stick (Model 65xxx, 65301, 111xxx, 72001, 72301) > General Discussion (HVR-850/950)

Can I user an WinTV-HVR-950Q on a powered USB 2.0 hub.

sysmg:
I am trying to make an DVR out of a PC that does not have an adequate power supply.  I am afraid the the power draw of the processor (encoding), the disk drive, video card, and WinTV-HVR-950Q will be too much.  I was thinking of getting a powered USB 2.0 hub so that the HVR950 would not draw system power.  Would that work?

SHS:
what your PC spec list of all hardware or make and model of that system

sysmg:
The PC is a Dell Optiplex GX280 (small form factor), with a 160watt power supply.  It has a P4 2.8Ghz, 2GB of Ram, 40GB of 7200rpm Sata (will upgrade to a bigger drive if this is workable), ATI Radeon X300 video card.  720p LCD TV as the monitor.

SHS:
I could be wrong but I think I'm 95% sure that the ATI Radeon X300 can not support HD video
did you do a clean install on that dell?
If yes what OS is install XP, Vista or Windows 7?
Did up update the Bios and all you chipset drivers, Windows SP and all the other lates stuff and a must install is DX9.0c

sysmg:
Clean install of Windows 7 32bit, all SPs and updates applied, upgraded BIOS to A08, used chipset drivers provided by Windows 7, nothing above that.  As for the X300 (128mb), I installed ATI 32bit drivers for Vista (9.3 I believe).  Windows 7 Aero works.  If I remember correctly Windows Experience Index Graphics Subscore was 2.4 and Gaming Graphics was 3.4.  It has DX9.0 not sure if it's 9.0c.  I'll check that tonight.

BTW.  I ordered the HVR-950Q today from Costco.  Should get it in a week to two weeks.  They had a good price and a 90 day, no questions asked, return policy.
