Hi;
I got this HD-PVR because its highly recommended, everything i heard about it are wonders. Except for the poor users who got those units which overheats quickly..

Anyways, i need help. Its the first PVR i got so im completely lost. Asked for support from hauppauge but they sure take long..

Right, first of all: why did i get it for? To record gameplay footage of the xbox 360 and ps3. So its not a  tv channel tunning issue...

I have carefully followed the setup process. Heres, in short, how it goes:
Xbox360 component cable(the very same that came in the 360's box..) goes into the hd pvr input. I use the cable that comes in the pvr's box in the output, goes to the tv. Optical cable(brand new) for sound goes from the xbox to the hd pvr input.

I can play great on my tv, image and sound are ok.

Been testing for 2 days now, and heres the summary of the results:
EVERYTIME i record, the software stops by itself. Every time, no exception. From one minute to three, thats how long the software wants to record. And no my hard disk isnt full, got plenty of space available.

The pictures freezes on the application, yet according to the record button, its still recording.. When i press stop the screen goes black. And from there, there is NO way to get the image and sound back. I need to shut down my xbox and my pvr and restart the whole process since the beginning. And what for? For one to three minute of recording..

This happened twice: when the software decides it has recorded enough, my sound dies. I dont know if it still grab it in the input (no way to check, it stopped recording!), but what i noticed it that it also stops from coming on my speakers, which is pretty annoying if you ask me. Because one thing is i cant record and the other thing is that i cant record and not even playing properly. This device is doing more damage than anything else..

And last but not least, according to a guide i read, the best format to upload to youtube is mp4. This is what happens everytime i upload a mp4 to youtube, behold:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXTCbuxm4dw

For those who arent familiar with Call Of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2, let me explain whats going on here. The video, for some unknown reason, plays at 0.5x speed. Meanwhile, the sound plays at normal speed, which explains why the sound stops at the middle of this funny video. To be sure its the video thats going slow, check at the beginning of the round, when the game starts, the countdown that appears in the screen is supposed to be in seconds. Each seconds on that screen are equal two on the youtube timer and on my watch.

This doesnt happen when i play it on my pc, its something that happens every time i upload any video i recorded on youtube. And when i try to convert it on my pc to another format (just for testing, i dont really have a point or a goal for that), it outputs really bad, not like on youtube but the picture gets fuzzy, not clear at all, unwatchable.

pc used specs:
AMD Athlon quad 2.66 ghz
4 gigs DDR2
ati saphire 4770
windows 7 build 7600 x64 everything updated

specific questions:
-Why the hell is this happening?;
-Has this situation, or similar, ever been reported?;
-What is the cause of all this? the hd-pvr? the software? ...!?;
-Is there any alternative for the software thats provided with the unit?;

asus m2a-mx. i dont think anything is overheating; everything else is fine on the pc.

And sorry for posting on the wrong section.

edit: just found out theres BeyondTV as an alternative to the crappy software that comes with the hd pvr. Just installed it, but had no time to test it.

Unplugged some usbs, plugged the hd pvr directly into a motherboard's usb port. Played without recording, yet it stops from getting the signal after awhile.. On another same setup test, tried recording and once again it stopped recording and killed my speakers.

Excuse me what is RMA? And so you agree, if you mention the tech support, it looks like a faulty device isnt?

well I have AMD Quad procesor that where the problem lies, the only solution I could ever find that works you must turn off to where you only have 1 processor working on each item, the tme TURN 3 PROCESSOR OFF, THEN WHEN YOU START THE CAPTURE turn 3 other processors off, once this is done you can record as long as you want do this in windows task manager right click on the progams and set the CPU affimity to one processor for each item you are using making sure to use a different processor for each item you use with the PVR, works like a charm, this only happens with AMD processors, intel seems to work fine.

Am getting a 'autoplay' error and it just shuts down my install. Have no clue what to do..Downloading software instead of running it from a CD. We'll see how it turns out.
