Greetings, all...

Hi, Rudi! Long time, no see (since DevCon 2005)...

I'm currently building a system for a client with a PVR 500 in it, and was wondering about any experiences from those in the US using cable. I'm curious as to how the switch to digital has worked out for these devices.

Thanks!

Hi Lewis,

I cannot tell much how the the switch to digital is proceeding in the U.S. However,
even though here in Germany analog TV broadcasting has been shut down for several
years now, almost any cable service provider is feeding both analog and digital. The
PVR500 requires analog signals. So if your cable is digital only, you have to connect
the card to a settop box that has analog outputs (preferable s-video). The down side
of this approach is, that you have to change channels using the box' remote  control
and since we don't have support for an "IR blaster" in OS/2, we cannot automate this.

Thanks, Rudi. I haven't tested connecting to my own cable feed directly, and as this client is a couple hundred miles away (different state and cable provider entirely), my own experience may indeed be different than his (he claims that he is able to connect his cable directly to his TV without a box).

Separate question coming - in a new thread.

Cheers/2
