So, I've been trying to dig for some info about setting up QAM Channels in Vista MC using my Hauppage HVR-1800 tuner card, but I am unsure of what I need to do to get it working.
I live in the chicago area and I am on comcast.
So far I have the coax cable coming from the wall to the ATSC/QAM input on the cable card.
I've updated the drivers from Hauppauge for the card as well.
I've been trying to scan in VistaMC for the digital channels, but it appears that it's not working.
I do not have any other STB or anything like that.
Do i need to use the WinTV software if I am using VistaMC? I've also read that VistaMC doesn't support QAM, and that I need to use Win7. Is that true as well? I have no problem installing Win7. Just want to know what I need to do in order to get some QAM channels in on my media center pc.
Also, when I have the cable plugged into my TV (panasonic viesa) i can get some digital channels and i can see the QAM PIP channels too.
Anyways, I've been confused about TV channels and what to do to get the digital ones cause they do look better than the analog ones.
Also trying to avoid renting a box from comcast too. i though that maybe using the hvr-1800 that i wouldn't need to rent the box. I hate being a n00b, but I just confused on what I need to do to get it to work.
any help is greatly appreciated! thanks!
