PVR500 + Vistax64 + >4GB RAM = which driver ?
(1/1)

Ok my setup is in my signature.. its a new build.
I am using Beyond TV 4.8.1 .. and using the drivers from the windows update site for the PVR500. When u boot up for the first time Vista installs default drivers and then run windows update and it gets the new ones.
To get the card to work I had to go into msconfig and limit the memory to 3227 (3.2GB) .. At 4GB it would not work whenever u tried to access the tuners, the feed would freeze. (the computer is fine.. no crash). This was also causing the BeyondTV configurator to report that it could not access the card. Well it was hit and miss I guess whenever the card got memory allocated > 3.2GB it fails.
SO for now I'm limited to 3.2GB RAM .. whats the solution here.. are the drivers on this site newer ? had this issue been resolved. I asked hauppauge technical support and they told me to buy their 1600/1800 cards but then I posted here (http://www.vistax64.com/media-center/97892-vista-ultimate-x64-hauppauge-hvr-1600-a-2.html) and as you can see folks there too are having trouble which more than 3.2GB RAM.
At memory prices today I want to upgrade to 8GB .. heck with the way vista eats up ram.. right now on boot itself 40% of my RAM is used. !
Anyone has anything that will help please let me know. Thanks.

Has anybody found a solution for this? I'm running Vista x64 with 8GB RAM and I can't get my 500MCE to work...and it is painful to have to scale back my memory...

I have the same problem. PVR500 does not work in Vista 64 bit with more than 4 GB RAM. Limiting memory cannot be an option.
Since Hauppauge is not capable to write a working driver, I decided to sell my PVR500 (and my PVR350 too). I have found another card (which also has hardware MPEG encoding) from another manufacturer which has fully working 64 bit drivers even with more than 4 GB RAM.
